FOX 26 was informed by the Alief Independent School District that she had a background working as an assistant teacher in elementary schools in the past. Officers from the Sugar Land Police Department received a call just before 10 p.m. from nearby residents in the 1100 block of Oxford Mills reporting hearing gunshots, as indicated by the preliminary information provided by the department.

Residents who called the police to report hearing the shots said they were close by. When the police arrived, they discovered the body of a woman named Wendy Duan in the backyard of the house. She had been shot a number of times, which ultimately led to her death. The information provided suggested that she was 28 years old. Even though there was no one else in the house when the police arrived, it is believed that a previous incident of domestic violence was the impetus for the shooting.
