Tom Greene Obituary, Death – On Thursday, May 19, 2022, Thomas “Thom” J. Greene, 71, of Beech Grove, died quietly at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Coleman Hospital on August 17, 1950, to Francis Thomas and Dorothy Katherine Wilcox Greene. Thom attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. Thom felt called to serve and protect his hometown at a young age and enlisted as an Indianapolis Police Department cadet. He then spent 34 years as a police officer for the city of Indianapolis. He left the company in 2004. After retiring, he became the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s director of SAFEM and security. At the time,
he was also the director of security for Honda in Greensburg, Indiana, as well as the Indiana Department of Child Services’ Program Director 1. Thom was a devout Catholic. He attended Holy Name Catholic Church and chanted the rosary every day. He was a Past Grand Knight of the Monsignor Downey Knights of Columbus #3660, where he received his third and fourth degrees, respectively. Thom was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police #86 and other law enforcement organizations. Thom was involved in his children’s activities and was a member of the Beech Grove Band Boosters and the South Grove Elementary PTA, of which he was former president.
Thom enjoyed golf, game shows with his sister-in-law, Carol, a nice cigar, driving his “Honey Car,” and relaxing in his backyard on the “Sister Alacoque Retreat,” where he talked to the birds. He enjoys performing magic feats for his grandchildren and other people. Thom will be remembered for his never-ending delight and wonderful sense of humour. His family was his greatest love.Thom is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Belinda K. Greene, daughter Cristina M. Greene (Dawn M. Wagner), son Thomas J. Greene II (Megan), grandchildren Toni C. England, Monica Marie Thomas (Brandon), Justin X. England (Miranda), Madison P. Wagner, Miranda K. Greene and Jayde M. Welch,
great-grandchildren Kinzley Jewell Thomas (Little Z), and Zoey Marie Thomas, and many nieces and nephews. Thom was predeceased by his parents and brother, Ronald J. Greene. Thom’s life will be celebrated with a visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022, at O’Riley Branson Funeral Service and Cremation, 6107 South East Street, Indianapolis. Morning prayers will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 9:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church, 89 North 17th Avenue, Beech Grove, Indiana. Calvary Cemetery will be used for interment.
