Todd Gillingham Obituary, Death – Todd Gillingham, 52, the former St. John’s Maple Leafs and Newfoundland’s own passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023, due to unknown causes. He was a well-known real estate agent and professional ice hockey player. He went on to play in the American Hockey League and the International Hockey League after establishing himself as a top-tier player in the QMJHL. His jersey from his time with the St. John’s Maple Leafs is now on exhibit in the Newfoundland Hockey Hall of Fame.
Todd Gillingham attended Marianopolis College from 1987 to 1989, where he majored in business and French studies. During this period, he was also exploring for new educational opportunities. Following that, in 2008, he enrolled in Algonquin College, where he stayed until he graduated in 2010. Between 2003 through 2007, he completed his studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and French. He then began working in the field.
Gillingham played senior hockey in his hometown before leaving from the sport more than a decade ago. Before retirement, he played for the St. John’s Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He opted to hang up his cleats and retire from the sport after eight seasons of playing in both leagues. From 1996 to 1999, he was the owner and operator of TnT Summer Camp, a premier off-season ice hockey training program and center. This job was held from 1996 and 1999. He spent a full year as a Second Language Instructor for the Kativik School Board between 2006 and 2007.
During the year he was employed as a Youth Coordinator by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, he worked in the Newfoundland and Labrador correctional facility in Whitbourne.
