Richard Smith Obituary, 84-years-old Man of Winston-Salem Has Died

Richard Smith Obituary, Death – Mr. Richard Wayne Smith, age 84, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 1, 2023, while he was a patient at Forsyth Medical Center. He was the son of Raymond Holley Smith, who passed away, and Violet Holley Smith, who was born on September 8, 1938 in Huntington, West Virginia. Richard had a deep love for the Lord, and he spent his entire life trying to bring others to Christ. He devoted his entire life to guiding young people, instructing Sunday School classes, and serving as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent in a number of different churches. While working as a bread delivery driver, Richard attended Liberty University and received his Bible degree.

After that, he went on to sell furniture for a number of different companies up to the time he retired. At the Vernon Forest Baptist Church, where he was a member, he continued to be engaged in serving the Lord. Richard was known for his warm and selfless devotion in all of his roles, including those of spouse, father, grandpa, great-grandfather, and friend. Not only did his parents pass away before him, but also four of his siblings. His wife of 61 years, Judith H. Smith, of the home; two sons, Jeffrey Smith of Richmond, Virginia, and Gregory Smith of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Rebecca Hurst (Glenn) of Walkertown; four grandchildren, Hannah Wilson (Cody), Holley Zelyez (Michael V), Grace Smith, and Jordan Smith; four great-grandchildren, Cory, Jude, Lennon, and Michael VI; as well as several nieces and nephew

Funeral services will be held on the Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the J.C. Green and Sons Wallburg Chapel, with Pastor Jim Brown presiding. At the conclusion of the service, the burial will take place at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. On Saturday, commencing at 10:00 a.m., the family will host a visitation at the funeral home located at 10301 North North Carolina Highway 109 in Winston-Salem. Friends are welcome to attend.
