Reverend Collins Obituary, Death – On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, the Reverend Chester “Chet” Collins, who had resided in Gaylord, Michigan all of his life, passed away. When he passed away at the age of 77, he went to live with his Lord and Savior in heaven. He had a long and fruitful life. The 15th of September is his birthday, and he was born in Flint, Michigan, in 1945; therefore, his birthday is September 15th. He received his high school graduation from St. Mary in 1963. He attended that institution. After that, he completed his schooling at Flint Community College before transferring to Central Michigan University to earn his degree. Before he joined the United States Navy, he worked for the Whittemore-Prescott School System for a combined total of three years prior to leaving for military service.
During that time period, he worked as an instructor. After being honorably released from the Navy, he went on to perform a variety of occupations until he returned to Gaylord and found a job at the Gaylord Post Office. He began his career at the Gaylord Post Office and remained there for the next 25 years after commencing his employment there. After he had retired, he went on to study at a theological institution, and on January 12, 2013, he was ordained to the priesthood. Since that time, he has been acting in the capacity of a priest. At the time, he was serving as the pastor of both St. Luke the Evangelist in Bellaire and St. Anthony of Padua in Mancelona. In addition, he was the pastor of St. Luke the Evangelist in Mancelona.
Father Chet’s previous priestly assignments include serving as the parochial vicar of St. Matthew in Boyne City, St. Augustine in Boyne Falls, St. John Nepomucene in Praga, St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Shrine in St. Joseph, and Guardian Angels in Manistee, as well as the administrator of St. Luke the Evangelist in Bellaire and St. Joseph in East Jordan.
