Phil Dawson Obituary, Death – Phil Dawson worked at Fantasy Radio in a variety of capacities, including as a presenter, producer, engineer, and chief tea-boy. He was also an original director of the company. We pass on the news of his passing with a heavy heart because of the influence he had on each and every one of us. He was such an important member of our organization and contributed so much to its success. Phil celebrated his 50th birthday in 1995, and as a present to himself, he decided to start Fantasy Radio. This was his gift to himself. Radio nerds in the town of Devizes took part in an experiment that was broadcast on the 1386kHz AM frequency. During the summer of 1997, Phil moved the frequency of his radio station to 105.8 FM and renamed it “Crystal-Clear FM Stereo.” He also changed the station’s branding. In April of 2011, our group was given the option to submit an application for a full-time license to operate as a Community Radio station, and we were successful in doing so. Since then, we have been able to broadcast full-time as a radio station serving our local community.
Since the 29th of February in 2012, we have been broadcasting episodes of Fantasy around the clock, seven days a week. His first job was with Granada in Birmingham, where he was needed to repair televisions in the homes of Granada’s customers. His first job was a learning experience for him. Phil moved on to the next phase of his profession after he built his own home recording studio, which was to record bands from all over the Midlands. This phase of his work lasted for several years. In their subsequent endeavors, a significant number of these bands achieved widespread notoriety and commercial success. In 1974, he was successful in securing employment at BRMB Radio, where he was eventually promoted to the position of engineer at that company. It was at that location that he was given the opportunity to direct the commercial production studio at the station, which allowed him to put his skills to good use as a musician who had taught himself as well as a voice-over artist.
In 1982, he began his career in the broadcasting industry by taking a position at Wiltshire Radio as a commercial producer and engineer. There is the beginning of his career there (GWR). After that, he relocated to Viking FM in Hull, but he never ceased keeping in touch with his friends from Devizes and was highly active in the Devizes Hospitals Broadcasting Service. He also had a radio show on the hospital radio station in Devizes (DHBS). Phil’s return was enthusiastically received by the community, and he wasted no time in establishing his business there. For the next forty years, he used this location as the headquarters for his own commercial production and jingle company, which he conducted under the names Ginger Music and Ginger Productions.
Ginger was the one who was accountable for the production of a considerable number of jingles and commercials for a wide variety of businesses, radio stations, and television advertisements that were broadcasted all over the nation. Ginger is the person who composed one of the most well-known radio jingles in Wiltshire, which was for Corsham Building Plastics. The jingle was used to advertise the company’s products.
