Pete Colbenson Obituary, Death – It is with great sadness that we share this news. Pete Colbenson was sadly lost over the weekend while he was fishing with his wife, Kathy Ginn Colbenson. They had been together for the entire day. President and Chief Executive Officer Kathy Ginn Colbenson leads our company at this time. Pete, a long-time and highly-respected pioneer in the field of child welfare, holds a doctorate in history and conducted the study for his dissertation in England. He never failed to come up with a hilarious tale about his experiences in England, and he was well-known for his unwavering commitment to the work he did.
Roy Barnes, the former governor of Georgia, appointed him to his current job as Executive Director of the Governor’s Children and Youth Coordinating Council after he had spent a significant portion of his professional life working inside the juvenile justice system (CYCC).
Pete had a profound concern for the welfare of children and families, and he was firmly of the opinion that everyone should be given the same treatment. The majority of Pete’s time in retirement was spent contributing to the mission of NAMI Georgia as a member of the organization’s board of directors (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill).
In addition to that, he maintained a garden in which he grew vegetables, and he regularly brought them to CHRIS 180 to share with the other people there. Pete was a very amazing and committed guy who spent his whole life giving his all to the betterment of his family, his friends, and the community in which he lived. He was known for his unwavering commitment to those around him. His passing will be sincerely mourned by each and everyone who knew him, regardless of how briefly or how well they knew him.
