Paul Sanders Obituary, Death – Paul D. Sanders, MD, 71, of Howards Grove, WI, died on September 30, 2022, of Parkinson’s disease and Lewy Body Dementia. Sanders was born on August 4, 1951, to George and Janis Sanders (Foster). In 1969, Paul graduated from Valley High School. In the states of Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Wisconsin. Paul graduated from OSU with a BS in mathematics in 1973. Paul earned his bachelor’s degree in 1977 from Oregon Health Sciences University. He began his fellowship in family medicine at CU & Poudre Valley Memorial Hospital in 1980. Paul opened his first clinic in Hood River, Oregon. He married Rae Stager in Alaska on February 22, 2002. He was amusing and devoted once he met you. Employees were entertained by his Alaskan stories.
His patients and coworkers adored him. Paul worked as the Medical Director at Aurora Health Center in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Orcas Medical Center in Eastsound, Washington, and Providence Seward Medical Center in Seward, Alaska. Wausau, Wisconsin-based Aspirus Health Care. Fellow of the AAFP Paul. Before marrying Rae, Paul divorced. Susan Wilcox was his first wife, followed by Hallie Garrison. Paul’s daughters are Ely, Lea, and Fiona. Following their nuptials, Ross hugged Rae. Paul was particularly proud of his daughters Ely, Lea, and Fiona, as well as his stepson Ross, who exemplified his professionalism, quality, and originality. Paul enjoyed being outside. In the Northwest, he windsurfed on the Columbia River and skied, snowboarded, and tented. He made a full-size wooden boat while in medical school. In Alaska and Wisconsin, they went canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and cross-country skiing. His shots were excellent.
Paul was there for his friends, family, and patients. His priorities were compassion, equality, integrity, and honesty. This was evident in his daily life as well as in the comments and emails he received after announcing his Parkinson’s disease retirement in 2015. He is survived by Rae and Paul’s three children. Stepson Ross (Lori) Gullikson; grandkids Lauren, Marcus, Jovani, and Sofia Sanders; Molina Stone; Susan Jones; sister June (Stan) Chapman; brother Norman Sanders; sisters-in-law Christine (William) Bernhagen; and brother-in-law Curtis Sanders (Sue) He is survived by nieces and nephews, as well as family and friends. Paul was predeceased by his parents and in-laws.
Pastor Julia Hollister will perform the ceremony at Sheboygan’s First Congregational Church on October 29, 2022, at 2:00 PM. Rae requests Paul’s recollections.
