Nicole Penner Obituary, Death – Melvin Peter Penner, 85, of Hepburn, Saskatchewan, died on August 16, 2022. Mel died in the final weeks of his life, surrounded by his wife and daughter, at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Mel Penner was born to John and Tena Penner on May 23, 1937, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. On April 7, 1962, Mel married the love of his life, Mary (Giesbrecht) Penner of Hepburn, Saskatchewan. Mel and Mary had three children (Joe, Patty, and Glen) and spent most of their 60-year marriage in Hepburn. Mel qualified in radio and television repair in 1973 and briefly owned Mel’s Radio and TV in Hepburn. He’d spent his entire life working to support his family. Despite having a wide range of skills, Mel worked as a mechanic for many years.
He was known as a “Jack of All Trades – Master of None,” and he truly could do it all. He was a modest man who didn’t want us to extol his greatness. He was a simple, conscientious person. A God-fearing man who adores his family. He wasn’t flawless, but he gave it his all, and we’re better off because of it. He’ll be sorely missed. Mel will be remembered for his sarcastic wit, termed “Penner Humor,” as well as his musical talent. He had a lot of fun playing games with his family and jamming with his buddies. Melvin later accepted our Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized at the Hepburn MB Church. His deep faith was one of his most distinguishing characteristics. He kept his Bible close by and read it every day. We know he is safe in the arms of His Lord.
Melvin, the youngest of ten children, was the last member of his immediate family to die. Clarence and wife Tena, Mabel and husband Pete, Pearl, Rueben and wives Maggie and Liz, Irvin, Ernie and wife Ruby, Allen and wife Virginia, Adelia and husband Melvin, Earl, and Mel and Mary’s youngest son Glen predeceased him. Mel’s wife, Mary (Giesbrecht) Penner, son Joe Penner and his wife Chris, and daughter Patty Schulz and her husband Don survive him. Nicole Robidoux (Ken Dyck), Richard Penner, Katie Penner, David Penner (Brittany Mosmann), Sam Penner, Kelsey Jackman (Calvin), Tiffany Penner, Adam Lewis, Audrey Schulz, Sarah Schulz, and eight great-grandkids are among the family’s grandchildren. Melvin is also survived by his in-laws, including Peter and Eva Giesbrecht, John and Carol Giesbrecht, Bertha and Ken Hamm, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Melvin’s life will be remembered at the Hepburn Gospel Church on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 3 p.m. You can watch the webcast here: https://youtu.be/PneYrnGEzoI
