Matt Denholm Obituary, Death –  We regret to inform you of the untimely demise of our colleague Matt Denholm, Region 9-Cincinnati’s Regional Director. We regret to inform you of the sudden demise of Matt Denholm, one of our colleagues.

In his role as Regional Director of Region 9-Cincinnati, Matt was appointed in 2020. His office is in charge of overseeing elections, looking into allegations of unfair labor practices, and defending the right of workers to organize collectively to raise wages and conditions at work in some areas of Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia.

In 1977, Matt was employed as a Field Examiner, which marked the beginning of his career with the Agency and more especially Region 9. He was appointed compliance officer for the region in 2000, and the following year he was elevated to supervisory field examiner. Matt was appointed Assistant to the Regional Director at the end of 2014, and he successfully served in that capacity from June 2018 to August 2019.

Matt, a native of Akron, Ohio, started his illustrious career in public service while serving as a Vietnamese linguist in the United States Air Force from 1970 to 1974. He earned a Political Science degree summa cum laude from the University of Akron in 1977.

Matt is remembered by his present and former NLRB coworkers as a strong leader with a commendable dedication to the Agency’s purpose.

“Matt was an incredibly committed public servant whose 46-year career at our Agency undoubtedly enhanced the lives of countless employees,” said general counsel Jennifer Abruzzo. “He diligently fought for workers’ rights to band together to demand workplace change for decades, working with Regional staff to promote and implement the National Labor Relations Act. His absence will be felt deeply.

“Matt’s unexpected passing has left us extremely devastated. He has contributed to the Agency for more than 40 years, and all who had the good fortune to work with him find inspiration in his devotion to the organization, according to Chairman McFerran. “We offer his family and friends our sincere condolences.”

Michelle, Matthew’s wife, and their kid Christian are left behind.
