Lloyd Gilbert Obituary, Death – John and Isabelle (Kern) Gilbert had LG on October 18, 1955. LG attended Hobart High School in 1973. During FFA, he fell in love with showring. LG fit show cattle for competitions and sales nationwide. He worked at several local ranches after graduating from Cameron University. His love for Hinton resident Vickie Tucker rivaled his love for showing. Vickie married him in 1975. LG worked at the OSU dairy and the couple studied in Stillwater, OK, where they married. LG earned a BS in Agricultural Education in 1977.
He taught agriculture at Navaho School in 1977–1978. LG and Vickie returned to Hinton/Sickles in 1978 and had son John Tucker Gilbert in 1978 and daughter Amy DeAnn Gilbert in 1981. LG joined Eakly COOP in 1978 and has worked in agriculture ever since. He was a Feed Sales Specialist at Eakly before becoming a Beef Nutrition Specialist at Farmland Ind. He then managed Mid Oklahoma COOP’s Okarche location. He was Hydro COOP’s General Manager until 2012. LG and Vickie’s journeys were full of ups and downs, laughter and tears, but they persevered.
He taught John and Amy the best agricultural practices. The family traveled the country to stock shows and other events, working hard and playing harder. He supported his children and grandchildren in everything. LG showed them that love and hard work could overcome any obstacle. LG taught the family to work hard and persevere. He left a legacy of love, humor, and determination that has helped his children and grandchildren reach any goal.
John Gilbert married Angi Suggs in 2002, and Amy Gilbert married Colby Hagerman in 2003.
Grandchildren changed LG and Vickie’s lives! Brittany (Gilbert) Parks, Garrett Gilbert, Tucker Gilbert, Kamryn Hagerman, Zane Hagerman, Izzie Gilbert, and Cai Hagerman enjoy adventures. Brittany and Kyle had a beautiful granddaughter, Sutton Parks. LG led the Limousin community. The Oklahoma Limousin Breed Association Board included him. He admired and supported the FFA, which shaped his life and that of his children and grandchildren. He liked taking kids to stock shows, speech contests, and judging contests and helping them.
For years, he led the Hydro Eakly FFA Booster Club. LG always helped. He sang all the girls’ silly songs as a bus driver. He judged or coached speech and creed. He always ensured fairness. In 2000 and 2009, Hydro-Eakly awarded him Honorary Chapter and State FFA Degrees. OSU awarded the first Gilbert Family Endowed Agricultural Scholarship in 2022 to promising agricultural leaders. LG retired raising cattle, horses, and family. He joined his Savior on January 18, 2023, at 67.
LG is survived by his wife of 47 years, Vickie, of their home in Hydro; John and Angi, and their children Garrett, Tucker, and Izzie in Hinton, OK; Brittany and Kyle Parks, and their daughter Sutton in Piedmont, OK; Amy Hagerman and Colby, and their children Kamryn, Zane, and Cai in Stillwater, OK; Cousins that were like sisters JoAnne Sapaugh and Pat Pachman and Dianne Barger and husband Don, Mary Janet Gilbert, and many family and friends were present. His parents, John and Isabelle, and brothers Donald, Ronald, and Robert died.
Instead of flowers, donate to the Hydro-Eakly FFA Booster Club c/o Bank of Hydro and the OSU Gilbert Family Endowed Agriculture Scholarship. Rev. Taylor Anderson will officiate a Celebration of Life at Hydro United Methodist Church on January 21, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Turner Funeral Home, Hinton, Oklahoma, will conduct services.
