Larry Whittlesey Obituary, Death – Since I started working here on January 22, 2014, today marks the 9th year anniversary of my employment at the YMCA. This past Friday, January 20, one of the most significant people in my life and a source of inspiration throughout my entire life, Larry Whittlesey, passed away unexpectedly while on vacation in Orlando, Florida. He was 67 years old in the very same city where we had our first encounter with each other in 2015.
This one struck me right in the gut. Larry greatly influenced my enthusiasm for the Y, especially at the beginning of my membership there. I was humbled and honored by the fact that he included me as a presenter and contributor at some of the national and regional YMCA Conferences that he led.
I gained a lot of knowledge about the history and mission of Christianity. At the YMCA, Larry was without a doubt one of the very best friends I had there. It washes over me in waves, as I realize how much I will miss him. His influence will be felt for a long time to come, and may his commitment to excellence continue to be carried on and flourish throughout the YMCA.
