Joanne Henshaw Obituary, Death – Hornell, New York, Arkport – Joanne M. Henshaw, formerly of 7977 State Route 36, died at the Vincent House in Wayland on Sunday, January 22, 2023. Gerald and Maude (Chase) Schofield gave birth to her on December 23, 1938, in Auburn, New York. She had lived all across New York before relocating to Arkport more than fifty years ago. For twenty-four years, she worked as a seamstress at the former Marion Rohr, which was also known as “The Panty Shanty.” Joanne’s relatives and friends will remember her for her love of puzzle books and ice cream, as well as the time she spent with her family and her fascination with the world outside her window.
Her parents, husband, James Henshaw, two stepdaughters, Marsha Hemiel and Marilyn Applebee, and a sister, Carol Schofield, all preceded her in death. Carol Schofield, her stepdaughter, died as well. Among those who survive are her daughter, Lynn Lantz (Greg Alverson) of Arkport, her four step-sons, James (Bonnie) Henshaw of Hornell, William Henshaw of Clay, NY, Stephen Henshaw of Arkport, and Louis Henshaw, her step-daughter, Janice Czimback of Elmira, her two sisters, Vera Munn of Florida and Sandra Smith of Brockport, and her granddaughter, Kayla Lantz of Arkport.
The family will be available to greet friends on Friday (January 27, 2023) from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at The Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell. Funeral services will be performed following the completion of calling hours. The gathering will be presided over by Deacon Robert McCormick. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Arkport’s Heritage Hill Cemetery.
