St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital accepts memorial donations in honor of loved ones. James Hinton and Lorraine Nicholson welcomed their son into the world on June 18, 1947, in the city of Moline. James Nicholson was his grandfather’s name.

He enlisted in the United States armed forces after graduating from Moline High School, where he had completed his secondary education. After a brief stint in the military, he went to work for Harley-Davidson before establishing his own motorcycle shop, Jim’s Cycle Works, in 1984. Others referred to him as their “go-to guy” because he was such a trustworthy friend. His unwavering devotion to his friends and family, combined with his extraordinary willingness to assist those in need, set him apart in a way that no one else could.

He enjoyed working on and riding his motorcycles, playing pool, reading, felling trees, chopping and splitting wood, and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed reading. James was a wonderful father to Julie Humphreys, a wonderful grandfather and great grandfather to Kirsten and Kensleigh, David Nicholson’s brother, and Christian (Kathleen) Colbert and Lisa Colbert’s uncle. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will all miss him tremendously.

Julie was the proudest of her accomplishments among James’ family members. His grandmother and grandfather, his biological father James Hinton, his mother Lorraine Nicholson, his father Jack Nicholson, and his sister Cheryl Colbert had all died before he was born.
