Huu Tran Obituary, Death – A shooting rampage that took place over the weekend at a dance studio in the city of Monterey Park, which is located east of Los Angeles, resulted in the deaths of ten people and injuries to ten more. Officials say that after a manhunt that lasted for several hours, the suspect was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Torrance, which is located approximately 50 kilometers to the southwest of Monterey Park. A man of Asian descent named Huu Can Tran, who is 72 years old, has been identified as the suspect. On the eve of the Lunar New Year and following a well-attended festival in the neighborhood, a violent attack took place late on Saturday evening in a predominantly Asian American community. On Saturday evening, the coroner pronounced the deaths of ten people at the scene, five of whom were women and five of whom were men.
Two of the victims have been identified as My Nhan, who was 65 years old, and Lilan Li, who was 63 years old, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner on Monday. Nobody has been able to put a name to the three remaining women and the five remaining men, all of whom are in their 50s, 60s, or 70s. The reason for the shooting is a mystery at this point. The investigation is being carried out not only by local authorities but also by the FBI. The suspect was intent on breaking into two distinct dance studios. On Saturday evening, around 10:22 p.m. local time, a shooter opened fire inside of Star Dance Studio, a ballroom dance studio on West Garvey Avenue that is owned by Chinese people. The shooting occurred less than a block away from where a Lunar New Year festival was being held. The first day of the festival that lasted for two days had just come to an end. After the shooting, the event, which officials claimed had more than 100,000 attendees, was canceled.
At the scene, authorities confirmed the deaths of ten people. The injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, where their conditions ranged from stable to critical at the time of arrival. Around a half an hour after the attack, the same armed man entered a different ballroom studio located in nearby Alhambra, a few miles away. This establishment was called Lai Lai Ballroom and Studio. According to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, the suspect went to the second location with the “intent to kill more people,” but two people were able to successfully disarm the suspect by wresting the weapon out of his hands.
According to the local authorities, the suspect was armed with a magazine-fed assault-style pistol. When asked about the legality of such a weapon in the state, Luna stated that he was unsure of its standing. On Sunday, local law enforcement in Torrance, California, spotted a white cargo van at approximately 10:20 a.m. local time. After the driver of the van pulled over and the police surrounded it, an officer fired a single shot into the vehicle. The authorities withdrew, and upon their return at approximately 12:52 p.m. with backup, they discovered that Tran had killed himself by shooting himself in the head.
