Gertrude Austin Obituary, Death – Gertrude Ann Kimbro Austin, 88, passed away at her Fulton, Kentucky, home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was the sole child of Marie L. “Monie” Johnson Kimbro and the late Lewis Kimbro, and she was born on May 26, 1934, in Hickman County, Kentucky. Her brother and sister-in-law Joe and Jane Burton of Odessa, Texas, as well as her husband of 57 years, Charles Rayford “Jack” Austin, both predeceased her. Gertrude had spent her entire life in Fulton and Hickman County, Kentucky, and was a devoted member of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
She cared for the family’s six members with compassion and selflessness. Because of her tender care for them, each of them passed away in their own homes. For more than 20 years, she served as the superintendent of the Fulton County Board of Education’s secretary. In Kentucky’s Fulton County, Jack and Gertrude jointly owned Austin Farm and Seed Company. Drs. Ann Marie Austin Ayer (Robert Louis) and Betty Jacqueline Austin are her two daughters. She also leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Jace Louis, Elijah Michael, and Delaney Ann Roberts.
Along with two nephews, a niece, six great-great nephews and nieces, and a great-great niece, in addition to her two grandchildren, Adam Louis Ayer and Elizabeth Ann Ayer Roberts (Dustin Shawn). Adam Louis Ayer, Gertrude’s grandson, will officiate during a graveside service at the New Rock Spring Cemetery. The surviving classmates from Central High School’s 1952 graduating class in Hickman County, Kentucky, serve as honorary pallbearers.
The funeral service will start at 11 a.m. on January 6, 2023. Friends are encouraged to be at the cemetery when the service begins since there won’t be a visitation. The arrangements will be handled by the Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton. The family requests memorial contributions are made to Marcia Cox for the Rock Springs Cemetery Maintenance Fund at 2267 US Highway 51, Fulton, KY 42041 in lieu of flowers.
