Francesca Gioia Obituary, Death – After a brief bout with illness, Francesca Gioia, age 98, who resided at 3879 Pratt Drive, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2019, at the Oneida Health Extended Care and Rehabilitation Center in Oneida, New York. She was the daughter of Calogero Aiello and Antonina Signorelli Aiello, and she was born on January 7, 1921, in the Italian village of Partanna. She completed the secondary level of her education in Italy. Pietro Gioia married Francesca Gioia in 1946. It was in April of 1977 when he passed away. Prior to Francesca’s retirement in 1985, she had spent the previous twelve years of her life working for Nellie Motta in Brooklyn.
After she reached retirement age, she uprooted her life and moved to Oneida in order to be nearer to her daughter. She was a member of the Oneida St. Patrick’s Church congregation at the time. Francesca cherished the chance to spend time with her doted-upon family whenever it presented itself. The moments she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were some of the most precious in her entire life. Her daughter and son-in-law, Maria (Salvatore) Roccaforte, as well as her two brothers, Gaetano and Vito Aiello, all passed away before her passing. On Monday, January 28, 2019, funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., and they will be immediately followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s Church at 10:00 a.m., which will be celebrated by Reverend Richard J. Kapral. Both services will take place on Monday, January 28, 2019.
The burial will take place at St. Agatha’s Cemetery in Canastota, and the services will be held there. On Sunday, everyone from the family as well as the community is encouraged to pay their respects at the funeral home located at 342 Main Street in Oneida between the hours of 4:00 and 8:00 PM.
