Elizabeth Roberts Death, Obituary – After a brief illness and with her children at her side, Elizabeth “Jessie” Roberts died away peacefully on January 5, 2023 at the home of her daughter Gwen. In the spring, there will be a funeral and burial. After graduating from Granville High School in 1944, she pursued her RN at The Rutland Hospital School of Nursing. In 1949, just as her nursing career was beginning, she wed Richard T. Roberts Jr. She continued her distinguished 62-year career as an RN while caring for her family of seven children.
She worked at various hospitals throughout her career, including the Orchard Nursing Center in North Granville, the Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge, New York, the Emma Laing Stevens Hospital in Granville, and the Indian River Nursing Home, from which she retired in 2009. Jessie was brought up at the Peniel Presbyterian Church, where she sang passionately and participated in the youth chorus. She was a devoted supporter of the Poultney Area St. David’s Society and Trinity Episcopal Church.
She was incredibly proud of her Welsh ancestry. Her life’s journey was joyfully interrupted by marriages, kids, reunions with family and friends, athletic events, travel, and the occasional “Saratoga racetrack/casino day”! She always eagerly anticipated seeing Gwen & George at their Florida home. Due to the fact that she was a lovely, calm person with a nice demeanor, Jessie had a large network of friends. She was well regarded by everyone she knew and loved, as well as by her workplace.
No family has ever been raised by a more beautiful mother, and for her husband or kids, no sacrifice was too severe. They adore and revere their mother, which says a lot about the amount of things she did for them throughout the day. We will always be grateful that she spent her entire life with us. She improved us as persons.
