Edward Stephenson Obituary, Death – Edward Boyd (Ed) Stephenson, Jr., 92 years old, a resident of Leesburg, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at The Oaks at Oakland Plantation. He was a resident of Leesburg. Funeral services will be performed at the Mathews Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at ten o’clock in the morning. The date and time of the services have not yet been determined. The subsequent ceremony, which will be the interment, will take place at the Crown Hill Mausoleum. In 1942, Ed moved the majority of his family to New York’s capital city of Albany.
Following his graduation from Albany High School in 1947, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He remained in that branch of the military until 1950, when he was honorably discharged from the armed forces. Soon after that, he began working for Southern Bell, where he remained employed until the year 1986, when he took early retirement. Ed was an early adopter of the use of the telephone and was a part of the collective at the time. Ed pursued his interest in flying to the point that he was able to get his private pilot’s license in 1963. He was the proud owner of not one but two planes.
At one point in time, he was recognized as a member by the Albany Aero Club in addition to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Among his surviving family members are his wife Mickie Butler Stephenson, his son Jimmy Stephenson and his wife Selina Coleman Stephenson, as well as his brother Henry James Stephenson of Rock Hill, South Carolina. Also surviving is his sister-in-law Mary Elizabeth Stephenson of Rock Hill, South Carolina. The family will be present at the Mathews Funeral Home to greet guests beginning at nine in the morning and continuing until the funeral service begins at the same site. The service will begin at noon.
