Dennis Grahn Obituary, Death – Dennis Grahn of Markesan died peacefully on Wednesday at the Markesan Resident Home. Dennis Grahn was born on May 16, at home in Mackford, to Elmer and Anna (Biesenthal) Grahn. He was baptized at County Line Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Markesan. On September 29, 1956, he married Beatrice Mildebrandt at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Manchester. Dennis grew up on the family farm on Mackford Prairie and helped out on the farm even after coming to town in 1991.
Dennis spent nearly 30 years with Flyway Mutual, climbing through the ranks to become President and later selling farm insurance. For nearly ten years, he was a member of Green Lake County ASCS. After retiring, Dennis worked as a courier for Markesan State Bank. He was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Markesan, where he helped manage the finances, served on the church council, was an usher, and played darts. Dennis was a huge sports fan. He enjoyed attending several sporting events for his children and grandchildren. He won multiple championships while playing baseball for the Markesan Firemen Semi-Pro Team and softball for the Center House Fast Pitch and Double D Bar Slow Pitch teams.
He was a fantastic bowler who also served as league secretary for many years and received numerous awards. Dennis and his wife Bea also liked to play cards. They had been members of the same card club for nearly 50 years, during which time they had shared many joyful memories. They also enjoyed traveling together, and over the years, they took countless vacations with family and friends. Dennis is survived by his sons, Dennis “Farmer” (Melanie) of Markesan, Rick “Winder” (Melanie) of Markesan, and Gale (Renae) of Plymouth; six grandchildren, Lindsey (Taylor Rafool) of Morton, IL, Danielle (Eric Christenson) and Alex, both of Plymouth, Candice “C.J.”
