Dawn Soderstrom Obituary, Death – Dawn M. Soderstrom, 57, of East Dundee, died on December 23, 2022, at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin. She was born in the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on September 15, 1965. Dawn has spent the last 21 years in the Dundee area. Dawn worked in the Finance Department of the Village of Schaumburg for more than 30 years before retiring. Dawn was a former Carpentersville Rebekah Lodge member, and she and her husband were also active members of the I.O.O.F. Century Logde # 492 (Oddfellows) in “Old Carpentersville.”
Dawn had a great affection for animals and was a vocal supporter of their rescue. Her sons, Jon (Charlotte) Picardi and Justice Soderstrom; her grandson, Raphael Picardi; her mother, Irene (the late Bart) Wiefering; her father, Tom (Kim) Szatkowski; and her sisters, Amy Szatkowski and Denise(Leslie) Olson are among her survivors. Her mother is also alive. Dawn is survived by her husband’s in-laws, as well as her Soderstrom in-laws, several nieces and nephews, and a plethora of wonderful and countless friends.
Dawn had enrolled with the Gift of Hope as an organ donor. Jeremy honored Dawn’s desires, and she later became an organ donor, all of which are consistent with her soft heart, kind and giving attitude, and love of people and service. Following the completion of her donation, she will be cremated per her wishes. A memorial service honoring her life was conducted on the afternoon of Sunday, January 15, 2023, commencing at noon and running until 6:00 P.M. at the Dundee VFW Post # 2298, situated at 117 S. First Street in West Dundee.
A prayer service was held at 12:30 p.m. Please leave the flowers at home.
