Curtis Brown Obituary, Death – On Thursday, January 19, 2023, at 7:32 p.m., a call was sent to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office regarding an unnatural death that had happened at a local hospital. Curtis Brown, 47 years old at the time of his death, was the subject of an investigation, and it was determined that natural causes were to blame. Mr. Brown’s body was transferred to the custody of Collins & Stone Funeral Home workers on the evening of Friday, January 20, 2023. The transfer occurred in the hospital. A vehicle belonging to Collins & Stone Funeral Home in Rockford was reported stolen from the funeral home’s site on Saturday, January 21, 2023.
The van was eventually discovered in the evening of Sunday, January 22, 2023, in Chicago. Mr. Brown’s body, however, was not discovered inside the van. Mr. Brown’s body was discovered in the backyard of a vacant house in the 8200 block of South Manistee Avenue in the city of Chicago on Monday, January 23, 2023. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified, but they refused to accept responsibility for Mr. Brown’s body. The Chicago Police Department requested assistance from the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office and contacted the Rockford Police Department. The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office responded to a call of a possible death in the 8200 block of Manistee Avenue.
Mr. Brown was placed in the custody of the Coroner’s Office before being returned to Rockford, where he is currently being held in anticipation of his release to a funeral home. Mr. Brown’s family was told of the incident, and they have been negotiating with a funeral home in another state to have Mr. Brown returned to Mississippi to be with his relatives. The Chicago Police Department and the Rockford Police Department collaborated to investigate this case, and the Coroner’s Office wishes to thank them for their efforts. The Rockford Police Department’s investigation into this incident is currently underway.
