Clifford Freeland Obituary, Death – Clifford Ross Freeland II, well known as “The Big Red Dog,” a resident of Marine City who was 70 years old at the time of his untimely death on January 15, 2023, passed away unexpectedly. Clifford Freeland Sr. and Alberta Freeland celebrated the arrival of their son into the world on June 23, 1952. Clifford Sr. has since passed away. In a wedding ceremony that took place on January 12, 2006, Cliff married Lori Smith. When he was in his younger years Cliff was a diver with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department for a significant portion of his professional life. He ran his own wrecker and repair business, which he also owned and operated himself.
Following that, he obtained employment with the St. Clair County Road commission, where he remained until the time of his retirement more than 20 years later. After that, Cliff looked for work and eventually found it with M&J Electric, Local 57, where he remained employed until the day he retired 15 years later. Cliff was an avid outdoorsman who frequently ventured to northern regions in pursuit of game and fishing chances. He was a man of many adventures. He adored nature in all of its varied manifestations, especially the great outdoors. He was a man who had a great mentality when it came to putting in long hours of labor. The fact that Cliff gave his utmost effort in everything he did was a source of great happiness for him.
He was a selfless man who always put the needs of others ahead of his own needs. He always put the needs of others before his own. He placed the utmost value on the time he was able to devote to his family, particularly the time he got to spend with his children and grandchildren. Cliff made it a priority to attend as many of his grandchildren’s sporting events as he was able to, and he did all in his ability to do so. The relationships that Cliff had with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends were the most significant aspects of his life. He is survived by Lori, the woman he has been married to for the past 17 years; his sons Clifford III Freeland, Steve (Casey) Freeland, and Dylan Parker; his grandchildren Ashley Williams, Mya, Claire, Tessa, Hunter, and Parker Freeland; his siblings Ann Whittaker, Penny Malcolm, and Jim Freeland.

His children, Ryan Jacob Freeland and Judy Stoutenburg, as well as his sisters and brothers-in-law, Rich Malcom, Don Whittaker Sr., and Nancy Freeland, his sister-in-law, all passed away before he did. A funeral service will be held at the Young Funeral Home in China Twp on Friday, January 20, at 11:30 in the morning. The service will be performed in memory of the deceased. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 19th, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and then again on Friday, January 20th, one hour before to the ceremony time.
