Christopher Doss – Amherst County Public Schools received the sad news earlier today that one of our students, Christopher Doss, who was in his 11th year at Amherst County High School, had passed away unexpectedly. Christopher Doss was a senior at Amherst County High School. This information was received by the district with a great lot of sadness and disappointment. Although we are aware of the possibility that two additional children are involved, one from Amherst County High School and one from Amherst Middle School, the names of those children have not been made public at this time. Those children attend either Amherst Middle School or Amherst County High School.
Everyone here has been profoundly impacted by Christopher’s demise during the holiday season due to the fact that it occurred during this time. Both in the classroom and out in the wider community, his presence will be sorely missed for the foreseeable future. In an effort to provide support to our students and staff and to assist them in coping with the horrific tragedy, more counselors have been made available at Amherst County High School and Amherst Middle School. This effort is being made in Amherst. This endeavor is being undertaken as part of an attempt to provide support to both our faculty and our students. As people get back into their regular routines, the Amherst County Public Schools will do everything in their power to ensure the health and safety of their students and employees, as well as the families and friends of Christopher.
This will occur even as people return to their normal schedules. We would want to take this opportunity to thank you for the thoughts and prayers that you have offered, as well as the support that you have provided, for everyone who has been impacted by this horrible tragedy. We wish to express our deepest condolences to his family and friends and ask that you continue to be there for them during this trying period in their lives. We know that this is a tough moment for all of you. There is a dearth of information available at this time concerning the conclusion of preparations for the burial.
