Charlene Snow Obituary, Longtime Donkin, Nova Scotia Resident Has Died

Charlene Snow Obituary, Death – Charlene Snow’s family unfortunately announces her unexpected death on December 30, 2022. She was a wonderful mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and friend, as well as an avid hockey lover. Charlene was born in Glace Bay and spent the majority of her childhood and adolescence in Donkin. She graduated from Donkin Morien District High School and spent the majority of her career as a teacher’s aide, which she truly liked. But, first and foremost, she was the matriarch of her family, or the ‘glue,’ as we called her. This applies to her immediate family as well as her brothers, cousins, and parents.

Charlene was always dependable. Charlene and Freddie raised Sandy and Dennis over the course of their 47-year marriage, through many happy and difficult times. Her favorites were Blake, Nora, Marissa, Mallorie, and Cameron. She took immense joy in her children, both large and small, and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them. She was never a pushover and was never afraid to express herself, but she was most known for her enormously sympathetic heart, hilarious wit, and seductive laugh. She spent endless hours cheering on her grandson Blake at the rink and was not afraid to go shopping while on the road for competitions.

Her boiling frosting chocolate cake was a family favorite, and she created the best Christmas presents. Nora will miss her shopping and lunch dates with Nana at Supermarket, Walmart, and Winners, where they amused customers. Charlene was predeceased by Murray and Margaret Shepard, adored brother Sandy, brother Roy in infancy, and in-laws Fred and Thelma Snow. Justin Jenkins, a close friend of hers, too died before her.

Her sons Dennis (Katherine), Sandy (Michelle), grandson Blake (Kristen), Marissa (Brandon), Mallorie and Nora, and great grandson Cameron survive her. She is survived by her siblings Eric (Valerie), Roger (Linda), Wendy (Walter), Kirk (Leslie), and sister in laws Darlene (Martin) and Michelle. Her cousin and greatest friend, Phyllis (Blair) Hunter, survives her, as do other nieces and nephews of whom she was very proud. A celebration of life will be held at the Glace Bay Miners Forum in the Community Room on Monday, January 9th at 3 PM, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to a charity of your choice.
