Brenda Raber Obituary, Death – On Thursday, January 12, 2023, Brenda Ann Raber lost her struggle with an unforeseen illness and passed away in the Baptist Medical Center Downtown in Jacksonville. She had been hospitalized there earlier that week. She was born in New York, but she lived in Texas during her childhood. Additionally, she has called Putnam County, New York, her home on multiple occasions during her life. Brenda was a licensed cosmetologist who had spent most of her nearly 25-year career in the beauty industry working at Regis, Ralph’s, and most recently at Smart Style in Wal-Mart. Her professional life began at Regis College.
Her favorite pastimes included going to the beach, fishing, spending time with her grandchildren, and listening to music. She also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. Brenda was a devoted member of the Baptist church throughout her life. Harold Spurles, the woman’s biological father, and Nancy Spurles, the woman she called her stepmother, had both passed away before she was born.
She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Richard Raber, her daughter, Desiree Baker (and her husband Steven), her mother, Esther Spurles, her sisters Donna Pittman and Linda Appling (and their husbands Bobby), her grandchildren Alyssa, Autumn, and Michael Blount, III, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a number of great-nieces and great-ne She had been married for the previous 13 years.
On Sunday, January 29, 2023, at three o’clock in the afternoon, funeral services will be held in the Johnson-Overturf Chapel located in Palatka, with Bro. Ricky Bybee serving as the officiant. At the funeral home on Sunday, beginning at 2:00 pm and continuing until the time of the ceremony, the family will meet and welcome friends beginning at that time and continuing until the time of the rites.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Brenda’s honor to St. Joseph’s Indian School. Donations can be made at www.stjo.org, which is the website the organization.
